The Media Center Blog
I just noticed a great guide on establishing Transcode 360 with My Movies for MCE. It offers some of the pitfalls that required me quite a while to work out, such as the Transcode 360 registry change that is required. Start to see the guide here on Toby’s blog. Before using Transcode 360 (known as TT to any extent further) I used WebGuide. WebGuide is obtainable through the Media Center user interface on the extender device.
We experienced problems though. Even though the extender and server are both linking to a 100Mbps LAN, trying to view the movie on the extender at 8Mbps (Ultra) quality level always resulted in missing and other issues. We’d then try to watch the movie at 2000Kbps (High) and even then we’d eventually have some kind of problem while watching the movie (usually freezing or missing).
Also, the quality level was terrible when viewing on a sizable display screen. Next I explored TT as a choice for watching movies on the extender. At first I had developed some issues with TT and quit on utilizing it. But, the inability to watch movies on the extender was a significant loss. Later, I again attempted TT that time could get it working. Below I will try to briefly describe ways to get TT ready to go with My Movies and Xbox360.
These instructions are for Vista MCE 32-bit Since I take advantage of Vista Ultimate 32-bit, Xbox 360 as an extender, My Movies 2.42 and 2.44, and Transcode 360 1.6.3 I am limited to my encounters with the given variations. I am going to not need information on XP MCE, or other versions of the apps. How you should already be set up, I am going to presume you have a Vista MCE working My Movies. You have movies ripped and put into your My Movies database.

Using My Movies on the MCE package, you can watch ripped Dvd disks effectively. I recommend choosing Service. Click Next. On the next screen you decide whether to perform with local system permissions, or run a service under dedicated account’s permissions. I would recommend choosing the first option (if you want to change this for network document access we can do that later). Click Install. When the install finishes choose to manually reboot later. If you are only going to be accessing movies stored on the Vista MCE machine, follow the instructions in the paragraph below titled registry update. This accounts:’ In the first container have access to the other computer. Within the next two boxes type the security password.
Click Ok. Now follow the instructions in the paragraph below called registry update. I am providing a batch file that can do this change for you, or you can do it manually. To do this automated, download this file to your personal computer. Browse to where in fact the document was preserved by you, double click on it.
